Continuing Education for HVAC Technicians: Skills for Success

Staying up to date on how to service the latest HVAC technology is a valuable skill to have, and that's why our technicians are constantly learning how to service equipment throughout the industry. Hoffman Mechanical Solutions offers ongoing training in various areas of the HVAC industry. This ensures that our technicians are well-rounded and knowledgeable about anything they might encounter in the field.

Not only do we utilize our experienced employees by having them share their wisdom with new techs, but we also bring in industry-leading professionals to teach classes at our various locations. Constantly learning allows our technicians to provide faster, more accurate, and more efficient service to customers. They can help customers get their systems up and running quickly, saving them both time and money.

Our technicians can complete training on Daikin VRV equipment, Daikin Applied equipment, ABB variable frequency drives, EVAPCO- Mr. Goodtower, Munters, ClimaCool, Macro Air, AAON/ Wattmaster, and more. But there are also skills that our technicians have that can’t be taught in a classroom.

We want our HVAC technicians to be fully equipped to handle numerous challenges in the field, and that means they likely have the following skills:

  1. HMS technicians have excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Troubleshooting is a necessary skill for any HVAC technician, but troubleshooting a problem efficiently will give you an advantage. Continually learning how to improve your problem-solving skills is a great way to attract potential employers. At HMS, we give techs the opportunities for hands-on experiences that help them develop these vital troubleshooting skills. It’s not something that you learn once, but troubleshooting is more about learning to adapt in the field to overcome any obstacle in your way.

  2. HMS technicians can explain complex technical information in a way that is easy to understand. It’s important to remember that not everyone possesses the technical knowledge that you do as an HVAC technician. Being able to give a building owner a simplified version of how you fixed their HVAC problem is almost as valuable as being able to fix that problem. Communication skills will always be a valuable asset to have.

  3. HMS technicians know how to ask for help. Often when you're working on a job site you might feel that you need to have all the answers. However, it's okay to call in another technician for advice. We don’t expect our technicians to have all the answers, so that’s why part of the curriculum at Hoffman Mechanical Solutions is constantly learning the latest techniques in the HVAC industry. We want our technicians to feel comfortable with what they know, but we also want them to be eager to learn more. The more time you spend in the industry, the more information you'll soak up and have in your arsenal on job sites.

Technology is advancing quickly, so continuing education is essential for staying ahead of the curve. Having superior learning opportunities at HMS ensures that our team can provide customers with the most efficient and effective solutions to meet their needs. At HMS, we value all kinds of skills and we make sure that our teams are well-prepared to handle various jobs in the field. Through classes and hands-on experience, our technicians truly have the upper hand in the HVAC industry. If you want to sharpen your skills as an HVAC technician and gain a major advantage in the industry, check our current openings today and advance your future tomorrow.
